Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said…And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the worldHebrews 4:3
For a while now I have been confronted with what it truly means to rest in God and cast my cares on Him. I mean, we even sang the jovial song in Sunday school without a true revelation of our own words.
It was only when I became an “adult” that I realised how hard it is to cast my burdens unto Jesus. If we are to be honest with ourselves, we are overworked because we constantly pick up burdens that we shouldn’t.
I was listening to a podcast recently where one of the hosts had lost something in her life that was seemingly significant. When she was asked how she felt after the loss, she said she was truly happy.
She then went on to explain that the way God has been working in her life is that He always brought something better after every “loss” and missed opportunity. God had been faithful in this regard, and this made her excited to see what greater thing He was going to bring into her life.
I shared this story to remind us that some losses are gains in disguise. If we don’t surrender our everything to God, and instead hold on to what seems great to us — we are living outside of His rest.We are a true manifestation of unbelief.
I am reminded of what resting in God means, how to forsake my own understanding and lean in His. I truly believe that He is inviting us in so that we can rest from our work. It is here where He will direct our steps and none of our efforts will be in vain.
Rest in Him.
